What we collect

This site is deliberately light. We collect three things, and only when you hand them over.

• Newsletter. Your email address, and the date you subscribed.
• Contact form. Your name, organisation, email address, the category you selected, and what you wrote.
• Technical logs. Standard server logs kept by our host: IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps.

We do not ask for health information about you or anyone else, and we ask you not to send it. If you write to us about a personal medical situation we will not be able to help, and we will delete the message.

Why we collect it

Newsletter addresses are used to send reports, indicator sets and district briefings, and for nothing else. Contact form entries are used to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation. Server logs are used to keep the site available and to detect abuse.

We do not sell data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not build profiles of visitors. Where the law requires a legal basis, ours is consent for the newsletter, and legitimate interest for replying to correspondence and keeping the site running.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no advertising cookies and runs no cross site trackers. If we introduce privacy respecting, aggregate analytics, it will be named here before it goes live, and it will not use cookies to follow you between sites.

Typefaces are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to a Google server and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. If that matters to you, a browser extension that blocks third party font loading will stop it, and the site will still work.

Who else sees your data

Only the service providers we need to run the site: our web host, our email provider and, for the newsletter, an email delivery service. Each is bound by its own contract to process data on our instructions. Data may be stored or processed in India, the United States or the European Union.

We will disclose data if a court or a regulator lawfully requires it. If that happens and we are permitted to tell you, we will.

How long we keep it

• Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days.
• Contact form entries: three years from the last message in the thread.
• Server logs: 90 days.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address below and we will act within 30 days. You do not need to give a reason, and asking will never affect anything else.

Every newsletter email carries a one click unsubscribe link. It works immediately.

If you are in India, you have these rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have them under the GDPR, including the right to complain to your national supervisory authority. If you are in California, you have them under the CCPA as amended.

Research data is separate

The data behind our reports is not collected through this website and is not covered by this policy in the same way. Research and field data reaches us in aggregate form from partner programmes and published sources. Nothing we publish identifies an individual, and we do not accept individually identifiable health records for research purposes. Where a report draws on field data, the source, the period and the consent basis are named in the report itself.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us their details, write to us and we will delete them.

Changes

If we change this policy we will change the date at the top and, for anything material, say so in the next newsletter. We will not quietly widen what we collect.
